Hi, I’m ADRIAN MYERS.
ADRIAN MYERS BEGAN PLAYING MUSIC AT THE AGE OF 12 IN HIS 6TH GRADE MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND. BY THE TIME HE REACHED 8TH GRADE, HE KNEW THAT MUSIC WOULD BE HIS LIFELONG PATH. THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL, ADRIAN FULLY IMMERSED HIMSELF IN AS MANY MUSICAL STYLES AS POSSIBLE. HIS MUSICAL JOURNEY INCLUDED JAZZ, PUNK, METAL, SYMPHONIC BAND, MARCHING BAND, AS WELL AS THEATER AND VOCAL MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS. HIS DEDICATION AND TALENT EARNED HIM THE PRESTIGIOUS LOUIS ARMSTRONG JAZZ AWARD UPON GRADUATION.
AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, ADRIAN IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TEACHING AND PERFORMING PROFESSIONALLY. DURING THIS TIME, HE ATTENDED A LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE WHERE HE PERFORMED IN BOTH THE JAZZ CHOIR AND JAZZ BAND. AFTER ONE YEAR, HE CHOSE TO PURSUE MUSIC FULL-TIME, BUILDING HIS CAREER THROUGH TEACHING AND LIVE PERFORMANCE. HE GAINED EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE PERFORMING AT WEDDINGS, FESTIVALS, THEATER PRODUCTIONS, AND NIGHT CLUBS.
AFTER FOUR YEARS OF WORKING AS A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN AND EDUCATOR, ADRIAN DECIDED TO FURTHER HIS STUDIES AND WAS ACCEPTED TO THE BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC ON SCHOLARSHIP. HE GRADUATED WITH A DEGREE IN PERFORMANCE AND MINOR STUDIES IN JAZZ COMPOSITION. WHILE ATTENDING BERKLEE, ADRIAN WAS HONORED WITH THE OUTSTANDING MUSIC INSTRUCTOR AWARD FOR DEMONSTRATING LEADERSHIP IN THE COLLEGE’S OUTREACH INITIATIVES AND USING MUSIC TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN BOSTON. THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT AND THE COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK-STUDY PROGRAM.
FOLLOWING GRADUATION, ADRIAN RELOCATED TO AUSTIN, TEXAS, WHERE HE BECAME AN ACTIVE PART OF THE CITY’S THRIVING MUSIC SCENE. DURING THIS TIME, HE AVERAGED FIVE PERFORMANCES PER WEEK, PLAYING A WIDE RANGE OF STYLES FROM JAZZ TO ROCK AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. HE RECORDED SEVERAL RECORDS AND HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL TO NINE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES THROUGH MUSIC. ALONGSIDE PERFORMING, ADRIAN ALSO TAUGHT PRIVATE LESSONS AND WORKED WITH BAND AID SCHOOL OF MUSIC.
AFTER TEN YEARS IN AUSTIN, ADRIAN RELOCATED TO OKLAHOMA CITY. THERE HE BEGAN PERFORMING FULL-TIME WITH HALL OF FAME ARTIST STONEY LARUE AND LATER FOUNDED OKC LIGHTS, CONTINUING HIS MISSION OF BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH MUSIC, PERFORMANCE, AND EDUCATION.
My Approach
Adrian’s approach to teaching reflects his approach to life. He believes that our understanding of ourselves and the world around us begins with relationships. By first building an understanding between teacher and student, and developing a strong relationship with music and the instrument itself, students are able to unlock their natural ability to express themselves through sound. Whether through reading music, improvising over chord progressions, or learning songs, Adrian’s goal is to help students discover their unique musical voice while building confidence, creativity, and a lifelong connection to music.
